Getting Started with OFFPIPE - Version 2.06

The following document is provided with the CD upon purchase of OFFPIPE.  It contains instructions on installing and uninstalling OFFPIPE.

Version 2.06 is a Windows 95/98/NT compatible DOS release of OFFPIPE.  To install OFFPIPE on your hard disk, please do the following:

  • Open a DOS window under Windows 95/98 or Windows NT, and click your mouse on the DOS window to make it active.
  • Place the OFFPIPE installation CD in your computer and invoke the batch file "INSTALL.BAT" on the CD by entering a command like the one given in the following example.

To install OFFPIPE in the directory "C:\OFFPIPE tupe the following in the DOS window:

F:INSTALL F:  C:  <Enter>

where F: = the drive containing the installation CD,
C: = the hard disk drive on which you plan to install OFFPIPE.

To install OFFPIPE on another disk drive, substitute the appropriate drive letter (D:, E:, etc.) for C: in the above example.  If your CD drive is not F:, then substitute the correct drive letter for F: in the example.

  • To install OFFPIPE in subdirectory such as C:\PROGRAMS\OFFPIPE type:

F:INSTALL F: C:\PROGRAMS <Enter>

To install OFFPIPE in a different subdirectory, substitute the correct directory path (C:\CORRECT\DIRECTORY\...) for C:\PROGRAMS in the above example.

  • To uninstall OFFPIPE from your computer, simply use the DOS command DELTREE C:\...\OFFPIPE (where "C:\...\OFFPIPE" is the path for the OFFPIPE directory) to delete the contents of the OFFPIPE directory and all of its subdirectories.   Be sure to back up and data or output files that you want to save before deleting the OFFPIPE directory.

Notes:

  1. A hardware copy protection KEY must be attached to your computer before OFFPIPE can be used.  This key is attached by plugging it into one of your computer's parallel printer ports with the arrow on the key pointing toward the computer.  If the arrow points away from the computer, it is plugged incorrectly into a serial port.

  2. This version of OFFPIPE requires approximately 8MB of available RAM memory under Windows 95/98/NT and 12MB of free space on your hard disk.   Your computer's CUP must provide hardware floating point support (i.e. an Intel Pentium, Pentium Pro, Pentium II or equivalent chip).  OFFPIPE will NOT run on older computers based on the Intel 486 SX or equivalent chipsets which lack hardware floating point support.

  3. This version of OFFPIPE will run correctly in a DOS window under Windows 3.1/95/98/NT.

  4. OFFPIPE is installed on your computer using the simple batch file "INSTALL.BAT" which is included on the installation CD.  If you encounter any difficulties during the installation, you can read this file using any text editor or word processor, and perform the indicated steps manually.

  5. The names and directory paths for the various disk files used by OFFPIPE when it executes are defined in the ASCII file "CONFIG.DAT" which is found in the OFFPIPE root directory.  If you wish to change any of the default file names or directory assignments used by OFFPIPE, you can do so by editing the contents of this file.  The file's contents are self-explanatory.

  6. The file "CONFIG.DAT" also permits the user to define character strings which can be used at the beginning and end of each set of printed output to define your printer's font and page configurations.  Example character strings are provided which enable OFFPIPE's output to be printed in landscape mode, using an appropriate reduced size font, on an HP LaserJet (or compatible printer) and on a Canon laser printer.  The LaserJet print string is loaded in the configuration file by default.
